Gymnastics is wrapping up in PE. Please check out the wonderful gymnastic routines created and captured by the students at this link: https://youtu.be/MnIrbSlLGmw
We have been discussing what our classroom blogging expectations are for Grade 4 as we get ready to start our own blogs. We have 4 classroom agreements regarding blogs:
1) Reflect or inspire learning
2) Be safe online
3) Respect people's opinions
4) Quality writing
Here are some reflections on our learning in various subjects from the last couple of weeks in school. We wrote these in our groups. Let us know what you think!
We are going to talk about what we’re doing in music and what we’re learning. Mr. Smith is our teacher, and right now we are learning a song called Poskok on the xylophone. Next, we are going to talk about beats in a game. Mr. Smith plays a number of beats on his xylophone and then we move to the beat. After that, we also learned how to play the recorder. We are also learning cool warm ups. Finally we have music twice a week for 45 minutes. What are you doing in music?
Reading (Group 2)
We have learned more about reading with comprehension. First we made connections about text to world, text to self and text to text. Next, we did D.E.A.R. time. (drop everything and read time) Finally,we learned about sensory details. Sensory details are things that we can picture in our head. Like things we can almost smell, taste, hear or feel. What book have you connected to?
PE (Group 3)
We have been learning about gymnastics and swimming. In swimming we have been doing survival strokes. It has been fun and it was kind of hard but then we got the hang of it. Also, we have to be safe in swimming and gymnastic. In gymnastics, we did some counter balances. One of the balances we tried was the human pyramid in gymnastics. It was really fun. What are some of your favorite counter-balances ? What should we blog about next time ?
Math (Group 4)
In math, we were learning about rounding and regrouping. We listened to a song to learn about the steps in rounding: rounding song (we will we will round you). This is how rounding works. For example, If you round 786 to the nearest 10, it would be 790. First, find the target to be rounded. Then look to the next number (to the right). If the number is 4 or less, you round down. (The target number stays the same and the numbers to the right they all turn into zero.) If the number to the right of the target number is 5 or more, then the target number goes one up. Quiz: round 5,899,781 to the nearest millions 2. 5,128 to the nearest hundreds.
Art (Group 5)
Our new nice teacher in Art, named Ms. Liz, has been teaching us how to decorate our sketchbook, and some more things like T-shirt designs, and stories. We decorated our sketch books by cutting out pictures from magazines.
For our class T-shirt, we have this big furry wolf in the front of the shirt. It says ‘The Wandering Winter Wolves.’ We also put wolves on the shoulder for the design. Then for the back design, we all drew wolves and wrote our name beside our drawing.
Next, we thought about stories in our lives that are meaningful. Then we chose a part of the moment and made it into a Linocut? Linocut is like a stamp. We have to carve into some easy or soft piece of wood. Then we paint it and use it like a stamp to make a print. See more down below
What do you like in art?
That's right! 2016-17 is the year of the Wandering Winter Wolves (insert howling sound here) or the WWW's. We have spent the last 3 weeks getting to know each other, establishing our class name, and getting into the routines of life on the top floor in Grade 4.
Our twitter feed captures a few of these moments and more.
The Wolves are off to a great start and I'm looking forward to working with this pack all year!
