Wrapping up Nov. 9-13

Reading & Writing:
This week, we have been working on writing and publishing our nonfiction books. The students created anchor charts or how to charts in class to show how to make each part of the book. As a class, we all worked on the how to make a cover chart. Then we broke into small groups and made how to charts for the table of contents, introduction, body, glossary, and index. Students are using their treasure and keywords summaries to build their books. They look really great already. We will be finishing up and sharing our published books next Wednesday.

Math:
This week we started our work with geometry. We have been studying, classifying, and drawing geometric terms including: line, line segments, points, rays, parallel, perpendicular, intersecting lines, and angles - acute, right, and obtuse. We have been learning to use protractors with precision. We have also been finding many of these lines and angles in our English alphabet.

Unit of Inquiry:

Our new unit of inquiry is on group membership. We are focusing on migration. To kick off this unit, each of the teachers shared their migration stories. We also documented our beginning understandings of migration and looked at some of the key vocabulary for this unit. All of these can be found in the students' google drive. Next week, we will be reading several stories to help us understand some of the causes and effects of migration on individuals, families, and cultures.
